Charles Levine ()

Artist

Charles Levine, known on stage as “Lonely C,” has been a central figure in electronic dance music since the early 2000s. Hailing from Boston, he met his partner Eli “Bamboozle/Elyte” Goldstein in high school, and together they formed the production/DJ duo Soul Clap in 2001. Levine’s musical upbringing is eclectic: jazz, funk, hip-hop, reggae, disco and soul all play into his sound, which melds soulful vocals, live instrumentation, edits, and heartfelt dancefloor energy. Over the years he has toured the world with Soul Clap, performing at major festivals and club houses from Panorama Bar to Watergate to the Marcy Hotel, carving out a signature style that is both groovy and forward-looking.

Beyond DJing and production, Levine is also co-founder of Soul Clap Records, a label he runs with Eli. Since its launch in 2012, the label has released hundreds of tracks, featured a roster of artists like Wolf + Lamb, FSQ, Nick Monaco, Life on Planets, and others, and become known for championing funky house, disco reworks, soulful jams, and unashamedly human dance music. Levine has worked and collaborated with legends such as George Clinton, Sly Stone, Nona Hendryx, and others, and his solo alter-ego, “Lonely C,” has allowed him to explore more personal projects—writing, singing, playing keyboards, and incorporating more experimental and live elements into his performances.
