a.k.a. Skips (US)
a.k.a. skips (he/him) is a San Francisco-born, Rotterdam-based producer, vocalist, visual artist, performer, and queer trans man. He originally made his name with his high-energy, multi-genre project DUCKY, which gathered a cult following of fellow freaks and old-school ravers - not only for the music, but for the vulnerability with his fans about his journey in recovery from addiction and struggles with mental health. At the end of 2021, he retired the DUCKY project with an 18-track album for his fans and a heartfelt letter about the struggle to find his place in a misogynistic and transphobic industry.
After some time away from the spotlight to begin his gender transition in private, a.k.a. skips has returned with full force. His new production project expresses the liberation found in living openly as himself, moving effortlessly from hardcore rave to genre-defying pop productions and once again garnering media attention from the likes of Mixmag, DJ Mag, and Forbes. His photobook, "i want to rest and be held by someone who loves me", was an intimate chronicle of the journey leading up to his transition which featured in well-known art book fairs such as Printed Matter across the USA. In his paintings under the same moniker, he explores taboo and shame in queer identity through vulnerable self-portraits that have featured in galleries in Europe and North America. No matter the medium, the creative polymath continues a legacy of raw self-expression in the hopes that others may feel empowered to be who they are.
