Saul van Stapele
Saul van Stapele (1974) is a well known author, journalist, conference organizer and critic based in the Netherlands, who has been writing books, interviews, articles and reviews on pop music, hip-hop and street culture for the past two decades.
He has worked as hip-hop expert for the leading Dutch music magazine Oor and as fulltime entertainment and news editor for national publication Nieuwe Revu. He was a columnist for OOG, magazine of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and is a music critic at Dutch national daily newspapers NRC Handelsblad and nrc.next.
Early 2013 Saul van Stapele was awarded the 19th edition of the Pop Media Prijs, the annual award for excellent pop music journalism in The Netherlands.
Due to his reputation as the leading Dutch urban music journalist and his strong connections with both the international urban scene and the music industry, Van Stapele has interviewed an impressive amount of prominent MC’s, DJ’s and producers. Artists he interviewed, often several times, include Kanye West, Jay Z, Eminem, OutKast, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, D' Angelo, Nas, Ice Cube, DJ Shadow, 50 Cent, Game, Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, Birdman, R. Kelly, The RZA, Action Bronson, Busta Rhymes, Gang Starr, LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Akon, Mobb Deep, DJ Quik, Nile Rodgers, Hudson Mohawke, Puff Daddy, Major Lazer, Skepta and many others.
