De Marktkantine

Built-in 1936 as a canteen for Dutch market traders, De Marktkantine has a dynamic history in music, theatre, and food within Amsterdam. It was restructured in 1950 as a theatre and functioned as a club in the ’90s when the dance scene began to evolve in The Netherlands. After a period of vacancy, a group of Amsterdam local entrepreneurs re-opened the venue in 2014.

Recently renovated, the building itself maintains its historical essence with an artistic flair. This is an effort to continue the legacy of De Marktkantine as a creative combination of music, art, food, and events.

The 3000 square feet building offers an array of dance areas and stages. The big theatre room can fit roughly 1200 people, while the smaller room offers 300 visitors a more intimate setting.
