How to Build a Soundsystem with Femme Bass Mafia
Speakers: Jennifer Schellenberg (Community & Education Program Coordinator, Femme Bass Mafia), Lilia Van Beukering (Founder & General Manager, Femme Bass Mafia)
What does it take to build a sound system from scratch? Beyond the wood, drivers, and amplifiers, the process is about community, creativity, and shared learning.
This year Femme Bass Mafia built their own system, guided by mentors and supported by designers and engineers embedded in sound system culture. The project combined hands-on knowledge from enclosure design, driver technology, amplification to the collective values at the heart of FBM: collaboration, safer spaces, and access to sound as a communal resource.
In this ADE Lab session, members of FBM share lessons learned from the build: the challenges, the breakthroughs, and the take-aways that shaped the journey. Alongside stories from the process, participants will receive a printable guide that breaks down the essentials, an entry point for anyone curious about starting a system of their own.
