ADE Opening Exhibition: A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture: 1990 - 2005
ADE Opening Exhibition: A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture: 1990 - 2005
Exploring the visual memory of the rave.
Thunderboom Records, One Eye Witness, Bastiaan van Berkel and Podiumkunst.net, together with Mark van Bergen (Dutch Dance) and Fontys Minor Dance Industry, present A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture, a living exhibition tracing the visual history of Dutch rave and the underground communities that shaped it.
What began during ADE 2024 as the first Flyer Scan Day at Sexyland World now returns as a full scale show. Archival visuals and sound fill the space, shaped by Thunderboom Records and Archival Consciousness, with playlists curated by Antal from Rush Hour and Shinedoe. The exhibition transforms decades of flyers, posters and visual experiments into a collective archive of creativity, freedom and connection.
The exhibition also features celebrated works by the Dutch artist Dadara, renowned for his pioneering flyers and artwork that defined the early 1990s rave aesthetic, and Lotte Ottevanger, the artist and designer freshly appointed as Night Mayor of The Hague, whose 3D installation Onbelicht Geluid (Unexposed Sound) celebrates the city’s underground scene.
With support from national networks of electronic music from Den Bosch to Groningen and The Hague to Tilburg, and featuring rare 1980s and 1990s studio gear on loan from Willem Twee Studios and other private collectors, A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture captures the pulse of a movement still alive in today’s night culture.
Tickets available now via Door Open Space.
Tickets to this exhibition also include access to The Grid by Victor Dissel and Bram van Ravenhorst and to the opening of of the 'ClubCult' exhibition at Door Open Space.

Yes, the Pro Pass grants you access to all ADE official festival events. Even if a festival event is sold out, you can still access the event with your ADE Pro Pass wristband. During ADE there are over 500 festival events and hundreds more cultural and conference events you can enter with the wristband. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a limited capacity that each venue can take into account for ADE Pro wristband holders. This means that, for some of the more crowded events, you have to arrive early to ensure attendance. Once capacity is reached, ADE Pro holders will be let into the event on a one in-one-out basis.
