Inspired by her 2020 collaboration with Sound MANA, artist/activist Madame Gandhi learned to build her own underwater microphones (hydrophones) during her music master’s at Stanford’s CCRMA, then traveled to Antarctica to record the sounds of melting glaciers. From these field recordings she created a Splice pack composed 100% from Antarctic sources, and later partnered with Brian Eno’s Earth Percent to release songs that donate a portion of streaming royalties to nature conservation.

In this one-hour session, Madame Gandhi will share the process and philosophy behind this work and demonstrate how she transforms raw environmental recordings into drums, textures, and melodies inside Ableton Live—now leveraging the new Splice integration in Live 12.3 to audition and pull sounds (including her Antarctica pack) straight from Live’s browser. We’ll cover a practical approach to micro-sampling field recordings. All levels welcome; no gear required, as the session will be primarily keynote plus 30 minutes of Q&A.
