Cook on: The ADE Cook-off returns

Wednesday, 19 October 2022
The ADE Cook-Off returns in a new format with new contestants! The friendly yet fiery competition takes place on ADE Thursday in the lush courtyard of ADE Business Hub Fosbury & Sons. The classic Battle Royale concept has shifted towards a head-to-head to see who is the better culinarian. DJs like Joe Smooth, Jamz Supernova, Masalo, and David Vunk enter the competition and are ready to fire it up with the guidance of professional chefs George Kataras and Hampus Risberg.
Chop chop

Come and join the battle of battles with your ADE Pro Pass and grab a drink at the bar. Three titles are at stake; the winner of each one-on-one battle walks away with the prestigious title of ADE Master Cook 2022. A jury of artists and chefs decide who wins after they have tasted the high-end dishes the DJs have made for them together with the chefs. All competing artists are Joe Smooth, Eric de Man, Jamz Supernova, Masalo, David Vunk, and Freddy Tratlehner.

Swedish Chef Hampus Risberg of Punk Royale in Copenhagen has worked in Michelin-star restaurants, has been winning highly acclaimed prizes since he was young. He's ready to help win three of the six artists that all bring something else to the table. They are up against the other half of the artists who receive the help of George Kataras, a chef originally from Greece and now working at Vanderveen restaurant in Amsterdam after having worked at restaurants in Copenhagen and London as well as RIJKS. The versatile and ever-energetic MC Ambush is the host of the Cook-off and is set to guide you through everything tasty on ADE Thursday.

The teams

Battle 1: Joe Smooth vs Eric de Man
Two legends of House burning down the house in the kitchen! Chicago-house icon Joe Smooth is up against Eric de Man, Dutch house selector since day one. The two are set to mix flavours just as smoothly as they mix grooves.

Battle 2: Jamz Supernova vs Masalo
Jamz Supernova is resident DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra and on Selector Radio and is always exploring underrepresented corners of musical history to push the scene forward. She glides between funky house, UK jazz, and old-school US hip-hop with almost no effort. Set to spice the Cook-off up, she takes on Rush Hour darling Masalo in their battle. Masalo is well-known for his eclectic sets he normally plays together with Kamma, who seamlessly blend groovy house cuts with soulful disco and bouncy italo. Let's see how they blend ingredients.

Battle 3: David Vunk vs Freddy Tratlehner
Freddy Tratlehner is one of the most viral Dutch cooking sensations of this moment. You might know him as a member of De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, but when he's not performing, you'll find him in the kitchen. Good luck to Rotterdam's finest disco selector David Vunk who puts Freddy to the test. He needs no introduction to ADE, since he's been making us dance with him for over 25 years. And it's hard no to dance to his never-ending enthusiasm when he's behind the decks. So, do we trust the man with a moustache or do we place our bets on the rapper?
