Steam 03 (ZA)

Steam 03 is a Cape Town-based DJ and production duo formed by Matt McKenzie and Nicholas Wessels. Since launching the project at 18 years old in 2021, the pair have built a reputation for their immersive sets and a refined sound that blends deep house roots with darker, techno-influenced textures.

Their growing presence in South Africa’s underground circuit has seen them perform at some of the country’s most respected venues and festivals, sharing the stage with artists such as Dino Lenny, Catz ’n Dogz, and supporting Raxon during his Cape Town tour. Beyond the booth, they are also the curators behind The Art Department, a concept-driven festival series, and Revision, a club night that has become a staple in Cape Town’s electronic calendar.

2025 marks a pivotal chapter in their career as in June 2025, Steam 03 released a two-track EP on Obscura music, the internationally acclaimed label run by Fedele. The release positions them firmly on the global radar, backed by a catalogue of unreleased work already supported by both local and international artists. Earlier this year, their debut EP, Wild Love, dropped on Guilty Pleasures, showcasing their ability to craft warm, timeless club records with emotional depth.

Balancing sharp curation with consistent growth, Steam 03 continues to push forward, building a sound and identity that feels rooted yet progressive, underground yet accessible. With more releases planned on large scale labels and a packed schedule ahead, they’re cementing themselves as one of South Africa’s most promising young duos.
