Rees (GB)
For anyone fancying themself as music aficionado or an expert on the next generation of Selectors currently thriving in UK club land’s fertile North East will know REES. Like many in his hometown of Boro, REES was brought up on two things. The mighty Middlesbrough football club and a range of proper UK underground raves. Illegal warehouses, club takeovers and pop up parties were the only way to pass the time and pushed REES down the path of vintage synths and kick drums.
REES’ music is inspired by the dance floor but moulded on his experiences, with his eclectic selection of music, he’s often heard moving swiftly between everything from Italo, Afro-Synth and Disco to late 80s House, Techno and Electro. His short career has already earned him many plaudits with a US tour, Redlight Radio show, Boiler Room and a run of headline shows already under his belt. On top of this, his talent behind a set of decks has seen him become a regular at Ape-X, the leading club brand in the North of England and he regularly supports the likes of Dan Shake, Tom Trago and other names across Newcastle.
It is the music that matters though with REES as confident in the studio as he behind the booth. 2020 mark’s his introduction to Man Power’s ME ME ME with his own 4 track EP that was Premiered by both DJ Mag and Techno Bible and saw support from Axel Boman, Laurent Garnier, Kornel Kovacs and much more.
Not content on forgetting his routes, REES has set about creating a platform that celebrates his heritage as well as the new generation of producers. Paradiso Records is his baby and the music blog, label and party brand is home to some exciting talents from all across Europe. It seems that neither REES nor Paradiso must rely on each other for success, as both brands stand tall in their own right. A testament to the belief and hard work REES puts in behind the scenes.
It is important to never take life for granted especially in such a thriving and often crowded scene. However, REES innate ability to seamlessly move a crowd combined with his dedication to perfection when it comes to his studio works only leaves you wondering what is possible for the boy from Boro?
