Phentix ()
Phentix has music in his DNA and is widely regarded as one of the most detailed and futuristic-sounding producers in contemporary drum and bass. His layered, intricate productions reflect his early musical influences, and his work has been released by respected labels such as Critical Music, Cyberfunk, Mainframe Recordings, and Flexout Audio. His talent has received broad support from heavyweights like Noisia, Xtrah, Kasra, and Mefjus.
Growing up around his family’s record store, Phentix learned to play the drums and guitar at a young age. In 2007, drawn to the sound of drum and bass, he began experimenting with electronic music production. By 2010, he had co-founded Soundkistm Crew and joined VorteilsPack, two collectives that helped him hone his DJ skills. Performing with the Sound in Motion party crews gave him a platform to test his productions and develop his sound.
In 2015, his track ‘Hoax’ appeared on the Matriarch EP for Xtrah’s Cyberfunk label, alongside inspirations like Mefjus, Xtrah, and Incognito. The following year, his debut solo EP Pitch Black on Cyberfunk received critical acclaim. He continued to build momentum with standout tracks like ‘Onset’ (featured on Signal’s—now IMANU—Systems 004 EP) and ‘Wrong Door’ with Monty on Critical Music, which further solidified his reputation in the scene.
Phentix’s DJ sets are as immersive and precise as his productions—delivering deep, rolling basslines and purring, pneumatic grooves with surgical attention to detail. He has shared the stage with top-tier acts such as Friction, Breakage, QZB, Phace, Amoss, and Bredren.
His latest release, the Weird Science EP on Flexout Audio, topped digital charts and reinforced his status as a forward-thinking force in drum and bass. With his momentum only growing, 2022 looks to be a landmark year for Phentix.
