Gigi Lamayne (Genesis Gabriella Tina Manney) is a South African award-winning musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, poet, DJ, presenter, voice-over artist, reality TV star, entrepreneur, social activist, and podcaster.

Known for her charismatic stage presence, versatility, and mature lyrical ability, she began writing poetry at the age of 11, with her first poem published by the Poetry Institute of Africa. By 16, she had transitioned into rap, drawing inspiration from Jean Grae, Bob Marley, Brenda Fassie, and Tupac Shakur. Her talent gained early recognition through the Richard Branson Scholarship programme in the UK and various local competitions.


Gigi rose to prominence with hit singles like 1 Bar, Ice Cream, and Lobola. Beyond music, she’s collaborated with brands such as Puma, launched the Gigi Gang Show (the first female-led one-woman hip-hop show in Africa), and explored multiple genres, from hip-hop to gqom.


Over her career, she has earned multiple awards, including Best Female and Mixtape of the Year at the SA Hip Hop Awards, as well as the Basadi in Music Award for Best Rap (2022). She’s also a recipient of the Gauteng Women of Wonder Award and recognized as one of the most influential women in South Africa.


Beyond performance, Gigi runs the Gigi Lamayne Foundation, supporting disadvantaged children, and has been an outspoken voice on women’s rights and social justice. Her career continues to span music releases, speaking engagements, acting roles, and international collaborations, making her one of South Africa’s most multifaceted and impactful artists.
