I believe in “practice what you preach”, so early 2010 I started working on my own property Perfect Earth, an online game for kids that gradually lets them discover about the impact of their actions on the environment. Players are explorers in a vast virtual Amazon Rainforest, where they discover all types of endangered animals and learn to live responsibly and sustainably in their own treehouse. Check out Perfect Earth International for more information, or go directly to game. Late 2012 I started teaching 3rd year students Multiplayer Game Design at the NHTV University in Breda, Netherlands. Working with students provided a lot of energy and fresh thinking, so when the opportunity knocked, I decided to start teaching ‘advanced games’ at Fontys’ Academy of Creative Industries. And in 2014 I gave my first guest lecture on funding/financing games, at the University of Arts Utrecht. In addition to that, I mentor several online and mobile game start-ups in the area of business development, player acquisition and monetization. Prior to starting my consultancy business, I worked for Habbo Hotel (Sulake Corporation) for 6 years, most recently in the role of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising Sales. And before joining Habbo, I was Internet Publisher for the largest media company of The Netherlands, Telegraaf Media Group, for 5 years. I was responsible for creation and execution of the digital strategies of their magazines, such as CosmoGIRL! and FHM. Between 1996 and 2000, I was Managing Director of Seven Monkeys New Media, a company that helped over 150 small and medium sized businesses develop Internet strategies and roll out websites, intranet environments and e-commerce applications. For many clients these were the first moves in the digital landscape.
