Matthew Schoen (CA)
Matthew Schoen is a Canadian 3D artist and motion designer currently based in the Netherlands. In his artistic practice, he conceptualizes, models and animates familiar objects and spaces that are detached from their function and their original context, in order to be repurposed into new systems. He draws inspiration from machines to create networks of complex constructions. His work is heavily influenced by commercial graphic design and animation, having himself worked for many years as motion designer for television and film. He was a regular contributor to Montreal’s AKOUSMA festival and featured at the Cluster New Music festival, the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA), Athens Digital Arts Festival, Rewire and more recently at the Kaboom Film Festival in Amsterdam. From 2016 to 2019, he worked at the animation and VFX studio Onesize, in Amsterdam, after which he pursued a freelance career. He now focuses on motion design and visual art while frequently collaborating with other musicians to create audiovisual works.
