DJ Gomes (NL)

Artist & Speaker
Gomes has been one of the top players since the beginning of UK Garage in Holland he became the resident at Speedfreax (#1 garage event NL), and earned that spot because of his energetic and tight sets, and always keeping an eye on the dance floor. He played at every major UK Garage event you could think off . Between 2000 – 2002, newer and darker sounds derived from the garage scene. Subgenres like ‘Dubstep’ and ‘Grime’ were created and Gomes was more attracted to these darker sounds and wanted to infect more people with this. That sound was played nowhere else so Gomes started his own Night in Amsterdam’s Paradiso called Oi! In 2004. The night slowly grew to one of the leading Dubstep & Grime brands in Holland with hostings on festivals like Mysteryland, Solar, 5 Days Off and ADE and sold out nights in the Paradiso, a radio show on 3voor12 and offcourse the Oi! Recordings label with releases from Benga, Kutz and more. In 2011 he became the resident of Melkweg’s weekly Thursday night CABLE, where he played all the bass styles in one night, from that point his sets where already much wider that just Dubstep. In 2013 Gomes decided to stop with the Oi! Raves, after almost 10 years it was time for something else. Gomes started to focus more on the producing side, with a few releases in the past on labels like Black-Ops, Subsonik and his release with D-Double-E on Oi! Recordings it was time to bring the levels up. With an new garage EP on Deep Freeze Records and earlyer this year on Mike Mago’s BMKLTSCH Records with support from some big names it looks like Gomes is going back to his garage roots. With the Speedfreax rave’s started again last year and Gomes being part of that he found his inspiration to bring the perfect mix between the old garage sound and the new garage & house tracks. This year Gomes will be playing allot of these sets at several clubs and festivals, here a short list where Gomes played the last years: Fabric (UK), Lowlands, Solar, Mysteryland, Pitch, Open Air, Valtifest, Paaspop, STRP, Lockdown, Colors, Free Your Mind, Laundry Day (BE) and many more.
