Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith. In a time where music lovers from almost all subcultures and genres are finding common ground in the basic form of bangin' beats, Pretty Lights is giving the people what they want: electro organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion and send dance floors into frenzies. And the people are responding. Pretty Lights has given away more than eight million free album downloads to date and averages 20,000 paid iTunes downloads each month. The U.K.’s Clash Magazine observed: “Pretty Lights’ music is full of chopped-up samples (both vintage and fresh) and deliciously big synth riffs layered over a solid-as-you-like hip hop backbone.” NPR put “I Can See It In Your Face” on its list of “10 Songs To Shake The Dance Floor” from the Ultra Music Festival while The Fader said: “[‘Fly Away Another Day’ is] pieced together awesomely, like a mini-symphony.” Pretty Lights’ spring 2011 outing earned a spot on Pollstar’s Top 50 grossing concert tours chart. It was followed by summer appearances at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Identity, Norway’s Oslo Live and Poland’s Audioriver and a sold-out concert at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Pretty Lights delivered its most sophisticated light and visual show to date on its fall headline tour, which also appeared weekly on Pollstar’s Top 50 grossing concert tours chart. It also included a stop at the Austin City Limits Festival. Pretty Lights joined Australia’s traveling Stereosonic festival for its five-city run in December; and then closed out 2011 at 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, CO with a two-night stand that concluded on New Year’s Eve.
