John Bonten (NL)

John Bonten has spent nearly two decades at the intersection of music and technology. He started out at Universal Music Group, supporting international campaigns for artists including Amy Winehouse and Feist, before joining Spotify in 2011 as a founding member of its international growth team. Over seven years in Berlin and New York, he helped take the platform from 6 to 65+ markets and from roughly 5 million to over 140 million monthly listeners.

Today John invests and advises across the music and consumer tech ecosystem. An active angel investor with 20+ investments including Calm, Photoroom, Sorare, Passionfroot and Snafu Records, he is also a co-founder of SpotiAngels, an angel collective founded by Spotify alumni. Through Moat, his Amsterdam-based consultancy, he works with subscription and consumer companies in the EU and US, among them Calm and Photoroom, on international expansion, partnerships, business operations and commercial strategy. Fluent in four languages, John brings an operator's perspective to helping teams scale globally.
