Coco Cole

Coco Cole

Coco Cole has gained a nice bit of recognition in just a few years on the scene. Nominated for Best Radio Show and as Best Resident DJ alongside legendary figures DJ Harvey and Terry Francis in the DJ Mag Best of British Awards. Mixmag even pulled out the metaphor, "vital cog in the machinery of UK Dance". She is somewhat of a nerd and has bookshelves piled high with musical history books, and her internet history is 99% music based… 1% cats. A true 90s kid raised in the countryside, it wasn’t crate digging in records shops that got her into music. It was Soulwax and Late Night Tales compilation CDs, night after night of scouring music blogs, Soundcloud, Last FM, MySpace, Bearshare, Limewire and the GTA Vice City Soundtrack (who wasn’t affected by that?). Teenage years with little else to do but pour over and discover sounds that eventually led to the Chicago and Detroit pioneers.

If she’s not listening to music, there’s a loop in her head, she’s humming, singing, tapping and now producing. It’s this love and dexterity that has led Martin Solveig to select Coco as resident for his globally touring My House brand. Skipping the walking stage and going straight into a sprint, Coco played the 10,000 capacity stage at Tomorrowland, a sell-out showcase at ADE and three seasons in Pacha. Only few can boast, humbly of course, that they've played the main room of the legendary Ibiza club over 30 times. Coco's sound extends far beyond the My House party, having played for Carl Cox at Space, Maya Jane Coles & Friends, London's best queer night Savage, XOYO, Stealth, MOS, Secret Garden Party, SW4 and Bestival. She’s even donned the main room of Berlin’s Sisyphos under her techno guise. On radio, Coco has been, what some might call, the gatekeeper of dance music for five years on the national station Capital XTRA, closing the weekend with her self-produced highly respected show on Sunday nights. Fighting for musical integrity on commercial radio, Coco organizes exclusive weekly mixtapes from esteemed artists like Tensnake and Tiga and with an ear for new talent, she foresees and supports emerging artists like Avalon Emerson, Ross From Friends and HAAi ; many who have gone on to don Boiler Room, RA and the Essential Mix. Coco is currently working to launch her own label and family of artists, citing Dekmantel, Turbo, Dark Entries and Huntley + Palmers as influences.
