Keynote Q&A Will Ashon: 25 Year-Anniversary ‘Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers’
12:00 - 12:45
Melkweg (M6 Panel Room) | Lijnbaansgracht 234A, Amsterdam
Will Ashon is a heavy weight: a prominent author, a respected hip-hop journalist in the 90’s and founder of the legendary Big Dada label, where he personally signed groundbreaking acts like Wiley, Roots Manuva, Diplo, Speech Debelle and many others. In November 2018 Ashon releases his new book Chamber Music – a genre-defying exploration of Wu-Tang Clan’s legendary and influential album Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers released 25 years ago. In the book Ashon tells the story of Wu-Tang Clan and how they changed the world in 36 interlinked “chambers”.
At ADE Beats Ashon will preview parts of his book and discuss with our delegates the impact of one of the most important records of the 20th century in his keynote Q&A. He will share his view on the record’s influence on our scene, but also the music industry and hip-hop in general, from his unique perspective, as a hip-hop journalist who wrote stories on the Clan and as a progressive label founder in the nineties. Foremost he will share his personal affection for a crucial record for our culture, as an author whose passion for Wu-Tang Clan and their seminal debut album culminated into his own literary work of art, a book that pushes the boundaries of music writing in general.
