How a Modern Label Works
13:00 - 13:45
Generator Amsterdam (U2 Panel Room) | Mauritskade 57, Amsterdam
Fifteen years ago it was widely predicted that record labels would cease to exist, reduced to utter irrelevance by the digitalisation of the music industry, the disappearance of sound carriers and artists preferring to take control of their own careers. It has since become clear that this prediction was spectacularly wrong, and what we see today is that labels are a thriving, innovative and highly relevant part of the 21st century music industry. But compared to the classic label and its basic, monopolistic business model, they are very different operations that usually require the people who work there to have multiple skill-sets. So how does a modern label work? Who does what, how are responsibilities divided up and how might you fit in to the jigsaw puzzle that is the modern record label?
Please be on time, full = full.
