Cup, Cup, Cup from Waste to Resource - presented by Heineken
14:30 - 15:30
DeLaMar Theater (D8 Panel Room) | Marnixstraat 402, Amsterdam
Any place where people come together to consume for a short amount of time, and where there’s limited or no access to water and energy, is a place where single-use packaging is most likely to be chosen by organisers, prioritising convenience over sustainability.
These items are light, relatively cheap, clean and easy to be ordered in large amounts. A staggering half of the global plastic production is dedicated to single-use products like this.
The single-used plastic products are designed to use only once and will become waste that will end up as landfill or burned - at very best - for energy. But none of these ways are effective in either protecting the climate or reducing waste.
A circular approach - a closed cycle of recycling - is the best answer to these contemporary problems with plastic. But what are the best practices for either customer friendly re-usable cup systems or closing the loop by collecting the cups and recycling into high quality plastic again? In this panel people in the event industry share their experience, the up- and the downsides.
