Paradiso | Weteringschans 6-8, Amsterdam
During ADE, contemporary dance and performance platform WhyNot zooms in on the body in relation to electronic music. The Body & Beats reseraches how the body reacts to different types of beats, and how a musician/dj can alter this physical experience. What do we know about the history of 'club dancing' and how does this relate to the developments now? What is the relationship between beats and trance, and its effect on the body? Does club music bring people together or does it promote individual pleasure? With presentations and showcases by different artists, we dive deeper into these two worlds: dance (the music) vs dance (the movement).
* Robin Koek (Artefakt) & Lily Kiara (performance & talk)
With a live improvisation, sound artist/dj Robin Koek (Artefakt) and dancer Lily Kiara explore various techniques and angles to create, manipulate and control dance rhythms, based on body sensors.
* Bogomir Doringer – I Dance Alone (talk & film)
Artist Bogomir Doringer presents his ongoing research project ‘I Dance Alone’, in which he uses bird’s eye view documentation of dance parties to investigate clubbing as an organism.
* Jesús de Vega & Chai Blaq – Choreopop (performance)
In their interdisciplinary project Choreopop, choreographer/dancer Jesus de Vega and singer/multi-instrumentalist Chai Blaq use body sounds as the base of the music.
* Rebecca Schaefer - When the brain moves to music (talk)
Assistant professor Neuropsychology Rebecca Schaefer talks about music in our heads, experiencing musical rhythm and why we move to the beat.
The Body & Beats is the second edition of a new series in which WhyNot connects the body and dance to each time a different art scene, to find common grounds and to inspire each other.
