Opening Q&A: Hip-Hop’s Global Moment
A lively conversation with Romain Bilharz, CEO Island Africa, Island France and Motown France, and Kees de Koning, founder and owner of Top Notch in The Netherlands, on the emerging and exciting new opportunities they see for creative talent in a world that is rapidly getting smaller.
Bilharz and De Koning are two of the most forward thinking men in the music industry and regularly meet up to exchange ideas and experiences, and translate trends and developments in their respective markets to emerging possibilities worldwide.
Romain Bilharz has major global experience as Artists and Repertoire manager, working with talents as diverse as Stromae, Doc Gynéco, Juliette Greco, Ben L’Oncle Soul, Thomas Azier and Efya, and is a key player in the African music industry. Kees de Koning’s record company Top Notch spearheads the on-going record breaking success of national hip-hop product in The Netherlands - last month 5 of the top 6 albums nationwide were Top Notch related hip-hop acts – with acts like Ronnie Flex, Lil Kleine, Broederliefde and SFB and works with artists in Belgium, Surinam, France and other markets.
In this Opening Q&A, Bilharz and De Koning take their meeting of the minds to the stage, discussing the global opportunities for hip-hop, bass and beats in 2017.
