One of the inventors and flag-bearers of synthpop is Gary Numan Official. Iconic for the genre, for example, is his hit 'Cars', which started his Victory tour in 1979. The British singer is an important influence for a wide range of artists including Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Vive la Fête, Moloko and Sugababes. The latter has had their biggest hit due to the music of such an iconic song from Numan: 'Are' Friends 'Electric?'. His new wave sound has become increasingly darker and more industrial over the years. The last studio album Splinter dates from 2013, possibly Numan's most theatrical work so far. This year, "Bed of Thorns" appeared as a new song on the soundtrack of Ghost In The Shell.
