On Thursday October 19th, ADE Beats hosts panels on music, art and representation. DJ and producer Waajeed worked as a photographer in the emerging Detroit hip-hop scene, and will discuss his Detroit hip-hop related visual art in an unique Q&A. Dutch hip-hop photographer Ilja Meefout talks about his work – including his artwork for that Wu-Tang album – and art curator Stephanie Afrifa discusses art and representation in her One Woman Museum.

14:00 ADE Beats Q&A – My Career In Ten Pictures
Moderator: Saul van Stapele (NL)

Ilja Meefout is the leading Hip-Hop photographer of The Netherlands. His pictures of superstars like Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne have become icons in itself and he is the go-to guy for the Dutch Hip-Hop scene, shooting artwork for its major acts. His passion for the culture shines through in his visual approach and social reporting as well, for example on the Amsterdam South-East neighborhoud he grew up in. And, lest we forget, he made the artwork for that notorious Wu-Tang Clan album. Yes, that one. Meefout will talk about his amazing career as Amsterdam based hip-hop photographer and highlight the stories behind ten of his most classic pictures.

15:00 ADE Beats College - One Woman Museum by Stephanie Afrifa
Moderator: Charisa Chotoe (NL)

Dutch art curator Stephanie Afrifa discusses art and representation in modern entertainment. This visually attractive and interactive ADE Beats College will be styled as a One Woman Museum where Afrifa will tell her story based upon art and cultural moments that have been formative for her as art curator.

16:00 ADE Beats Q&A – Detroit Hip-Hop Through The Eyes of Waajeed
Moderator: Thomas Heerma van Voss (NL)

Most people know Waajeed for his inventive and genre-defying productions and his unique standing in the Detroit music scene. His musical output has been amazing over the years, from the releases of his Dirt Tech Records to collaborations with Theo Parrish and Mad Mike Banks to his involvement with Slum Village and J Dilla and as part of Platinum Pied Pipers. In this talk we focus on his unique visual work as photographer in the emerging Detroit Hip-Hop scene, chronicling the rise of some of the culture’s most influential artists. Waajeed will talk about his Detroit Hip-Hop related visual art in this unique Q&A.
