Sensory Showers consists of 3 technically identical prototypes developed as a portable research and expressive multi-sensorial tool that can be installed in different locations. Each shower can be seen as an immersive instrument, one in which a composition of light and sound frequencies can be experienced on many levels; audibly and visually, as well as the experience they have on a perceptual, physiological and emotional level.
These showers house the technique to create sensory compositions of light, smell, ultra and infra-sounds, as well as sounds within the normal hearing range. The compositions use layers of frequencies designed to trigger associations and memories as well as specific physical and emotional states of being in the public. The public are immersed in a dialogue between the three states the showers propose, from which a particular atmosphere and associative narrative space emerges.
The installation as a whole consists of a space with three sensory showers, each with its own immersive composition, surrounded by a composed light and sound environment. The public can move in, out and in-between these atmospheric bubbles, creating an engaging experience of the installation as a whole, where an associative narrative of the space can start emerging.
Sensory Showers creates the possibility for experiences of certain atmospheres for which we feel there is no room in a public space. Atmospheres such as melancholy, joy and longing. We aim to open up small bubbles wherein people can experience these lost environments and where one can gain a new perspective on how we relate to the surrounding space and how this might influence our state of being.
