MyAmsterdam: Kluun & Thimbles
17:00 - 18:00 | Free entrance
I amsterdam Store | De Ruijterkade 28a-d, Amsterdam
ADE is bringing some of its biggest artist names to Amsterdam's main point of arrival, the forecourt outside Central Station. MYAmsterdam features top DJs in an extension of MusicTalks which will be held in the IAMsterdam store in front of Central Station. It’s a small room with a capacity of only 50 people, surrounded by glass windows, so even if you can't get in to the venue itself, you can watch the action from outside! All the artists involved in the MYAmsterdam series have a close connection with Amsterdam. Some because they were born here and lived here all their lives, others are artists that have been significantly inspired by the city and its culture, and some are people that moved to Amsterdam because of its music scene! Entrance is free for everyone, and on a first come first served basis! From Wednesday to Saturday ADE will host three or four interviews per day.
Kluun (it's no wonder he shortens his name, given that it's Raijmondus "Raymond" Godefriedus Norbert van de Klundert in full) is one of the Netherlands' most popular authors. His 2003 novel 'Komt een Vrouw bij de Dokter', fictionalising his experiences around the death from cancer of his wife – published in English as Love Life – became a huge hit, and he has written many successful books since, notably including a guide for new fathers Help, ik heb mijn Vrouw Zwanger Gemaakt!(Help, I've Made my Wife Pregnant!). He is also a lifelong lover of club culture, not a bad DJ in his own right, and is currently working on a new novel set in the upper echelons of EDM entitled DJ: “a story full of dance, drugs, lust, deceit and deception” that rampages across Las Vegas and Amsterdam.
Bart Thimbles is definitely in the Dutch dance music aristocracy. Way back in 1991 his Turn Up The Bass House Party DJ mix CD was one of the first smash hit house mixes, and remains the biggest selling mix CD of all time in the Netherlands. His unerring blends of jazz, funk, soul, downbeat and cinematic lounge music have seen him become a connoisseur's choice for sophisticated parties – and his label Therapy Records is one of the most reliable in the chillout world, regularly appearing on tastemaker compliations like those from Hotel Costes and Cafe Del Mar. He regularly works for brands like Heineken, Suit Supply and Brand Loyalty. And has DJed at prestigious events, not just in the Netherlands, but in Beijing, London, Beirut, Rome, Barcelona and Dubai, all over America, Curacao, Budapest, Thailand and Malaysia, as well as being resident in the Holland Heineken House at the Sochi Olympics in 2014.
