Having recently started a collaboration with modular manufacturer Endorphin.es and app developers Liine, Bougaïeff’s talk at ADE 2016 will focus on demonstrating and discussing various ways a modular approach can benefit from mobile-device control, specifically music performance workflows with an Endorphin.es’ modular system and the Lemur iPad app. Bougaïeff will also address various strategies and considerations with regards to developing custom software for live sets and music software for the general public.
Nicolas Bougaïeff is a maverick in today’s musical underground. His productions are a synthesis between classical composition and contemporary techno. A thirst for a deep understanding of musical architecture inspired Bougaïeff to take up musique concrète studies at the Conservatoire in Montreal, before he completed a PhD on the subject of minimal techno at the University of Huddersfield. A move to Berlin in 2008 proved a pivotal moment in Bougaïeff’s artistic development; establishing a lasting friendship with Richie Hawtin and designing the performance set-up for Hawtin’s Plastikman Live tour, before going on to co-found Liine. Establishing himself as a respected educator and authoritative voice in the industry, Bougaïeff regularly delivers composition master classes at universities across Europe and has appeared on panels at Mutek, Norberg Festival and Ableton Loop.
