Festivals have become an undeniable part of our culture and landscape. The forest, beach and industrial wasteland have become places where people celebrate and come together. Photographer Cleo Campert captured the festival culture focusing on the environment and nature surrounding it. The Netherlands has become a festival country through and through and it was clear to her she had to do something with that as photographic subject. Campert says: 'I find it fascinating and impressive how people come together with hundreds or thousands to experience music, each other and to party. They have left the nightclubs for partying outside during daytime. In my nightlife photography I have always addressed people, now I let the environment play a major role".
Campert wanted to know what the surroundings would be like without the people, the tents, the music and all the activity of the festivals. The landscape without all that is almost a festival on its own. A Festival of the Elements with the upcoming sun, the mist and rain as it's special effects. The visitors are just three bunnies, a few dogwalkers and a nudist.
The book presentation will be on the 20th October with an exclusive DJ-set by Joost van Bellen.
