A Dutch film crew, led by Ward Lennaerts, undertook a four week trip through China to capture its local electronic music scene. They interviewed pioneers Elvis T and Yang Bing in metropoles like Beijing and Shanghai, but also offer a unique insight into upcoming cities' local scenes, like Chengdu and Chongqing. The result is an intriguing portrait of China's socio-economic milieu. Even at the other side of our world, electronic music appears to function as a strong social cement, stretching from Boilerroom Sessions to the Chinese Great Wall raves. The Q&A session with Ward Lennaerts will be led by DJBroadcast's Eelco Couvreur.
Prior to 'Electrifying China', the youngest masterpiece of modular Buchla-synth fanatics and pioneers Suzanne Ciani and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, will be screened. 'Sunergy' is the documentary part that offers an extra, visual dimension to their record. Ciani and Smith have orchestrated their varying approaches to their Buchla machines into a bed of interlocking synth and melodic patterns; a Vivaldi-like stream of aquatic sounds that is also a shared expression of their hometown Bolinas, a major source of inspiration and artistic haven. A true synth odyssee.
