No matter who you are, from the get-go, record deal terms are negotiable. If you are just starting out in the music industry, it is all a bit overwhelming. But don’t worry, it is possible for any artist to receive a fair deal.
On Thursday October 18th, 3pm (15:00h) at Abbey Road Institute Amsterdam, Bindu De Knock is going to explain how to do it yourself. Bindu is an IP, Music & Entertainment lawyer ánd musician. As her clients she has DJ’s, publishers and other creative enterprises. She is the author of the book ‘Noot voor Noot: inleiding muziekrecht’, in which she explains to musicians in an accessible manner how you can use your rights to make money in the music industry (www.nootvoornoot.com).
One of her missions is to convince other musicians that it’s necessary to have at least a basic knowledge of the jurisdictional side of their profession, and to know their rights. Because sad but true, a lot of producers and songwriters can’t afford any jurisdictional advice, let alone a lawyer, and generally get shitty contract proposals. The majority is afraid to negotiate; others don’t know how far they can go in the negotiations. On top of that, some do not even fully understand what’s being said in the contract. All the more reasons to join us for this crash-course negotiating.
This workshop will take place at Sonic City Studios (in Q-Factory), the home of Abbey Road Institute Amsterdam.
