Daniel Miller (Mute, GB)
It's hard to think of anyone whose contribution to dance and electronic music has been as foundational as Daniel Miller's. His band The Normal, with “Warm Leatherette” in 1978, created one of the most important blueprints for electronic music this side of Kraftwerk, and Mute, the record label he founded to release it, has nurtured the careers of untold pioneers. Artists from Depeche Mode to Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire to Goldfrapp – and on the Novamute sub-label the likes of Richie Hawtin, Luke Slater and Miss Kittin – changed the face of music again and again. Still working hard and occasionally DJing too, Daniel remains as in love with experimental sound today as he ever was.
