The 2018 ADE Book is ... Dutch Dance
Dutch Dance - How The Netherlands took the lead in Electronic Music Culture is published exactly 30 years after the birth of house and dance music in The Netherlands.
Following up on the ADE University alumni stories and Netsky's Studio XL session at ADE Sound Lab we are delighted to announce the ADE Book, the annual gift for ADE Pass and ADE Conference Pass holders.
September 1988. It has been some time since the new house music from Chicago, Detroit and New York found its way to Dutch shores. And yet, to the frustration of a select group of DJs that have been importing the revolutionary sound, public and media response has been dismissive. But then, with the help of a contingent of British DJs and rave-goers, and with solid preparatory work by Belgian pioneers, the Dutch dance music scene explodes. An Autumn of Love is born.
Thirty years later, The Netherlands are at the vanguard of this worldwide cultural phenomenon: Dutch DJs head lineups and popularity polls. Festivals and event concepts are rolled out all over the world with resounding success.
The year 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the birth of house and dance music in the Netherlands. It is easy to see how much Dutch DJs, producers, organizers and record labels have contributed to the worldwide popularity and growth of dance music. But when, where and how did it all start? What exactly happened in The Netherlands in the past 30 years?
Dutch Dance - How The Netherlands took the lead in Electronic Music Culture chronologically documents all the steps in this expansion, providing a wealth of information, interviews and pictures. It explains how a mix of circumstances provided the fertile ground for electronic dance music to flourish. The book documents all the major players, venues, cities and styles involved in this incredible cultural history.
‘Dutch Dance’ is written by Mark van Bergen, journalist and lecturer specialized in electronic dance music. He runs the Dutch Dance Industry Lab at Fontys Academy for Creative Industries in Tilburg, which initiated the project. Van Bergen is also founder/editor-in-chief of dance music platform Thisisourhouse.nl. Fontys ACI is also educational partner of ADE University.
