Conference highlights for Friday

18-10-2017

  • Conference highlights for Friday

On Day 3 of our conference we present ADE Dance & Brands at DeLaMar; also we have some extraordinarily interesting panels at ADE Pro. Meanwhile ADE Beats – our international hip-hop, bass & beats platform – will return to the Melkweg.

After recent news on Richie Hawtin and KiNK to kick off ADE Sound Lab and Nachtlab Agency’s Sylvester Lindemulder's three picks for ADE Green, it is it is time to hightlight conference topics on ADE's Friday. Here are the top five picks, not to be missed:

Keynote interview with LiveStyle CEO Gary Richards.

If there's anyone who can illuminate the connections (and disconnects) between the EDM mainstream of the US and the rest of club culture, it's this man. President of LiveStyle North America, formerly CEO of HARD events, joint founder of the Electric Daisy Carnival (at the age of just 21), colleague of Rick Rubin, one of the first to book Skrillex and Diplo – and before all that just plain DJ Destructo – Gary was the man who brought The Prodigy, Justice, Erol Alkan, XL Recordings, Sven Väth and Harthouse Records to the US market. As if that wasn't enough, he's made records with Snoop Dogg, E-40, Ty Dolla $ign and YG too: this one will be unmissable!

What Do Brands and Agencies Really Want From New Artist Partnerships?
As part of ADE Dance & Brands we will discuss the importance of aligning with the right brand and accessing key audiences in order to create breakthroughs and a route to success. The panel will also be looking at how brands are becoming a more important voice in the every day conversation of music and within the music industry, and how the real emphasis is on brands and emerging bands to connect in a way that’s authentic and organic. When that happens, the results can be spectacular.

Country Focus: Morocco
Morocco occupies a unique cultural position: an interface between Africa, Europe and the wider Islamic world, with ancient musical cultures of its own that incorporates deep and rich understanding of dance and repetition. Its modern dance scene is absolutely of the 21st century, though, and whether via young Moroccan producers or via the international festivals that take place in its stunning landscapes, its influence grows year-on-year. We're thrilled to have the cream of Moroccan organizers, and later on Friday to host an informal drink with Dutch Culture where you can meet players on the Moroccan scene and see some acts perform.

Q&A JAE5 - The Sound of a New Generation
24-year old UK producer Jonathan ‘JAE5’ Mensah is the future. The amazing, genre-bending productions of the East-London producer, are a culmination of the most exciting trends in hiphop, bass and beats right now and a true celebration of hip-hop’s global moment. JAE5 is the go-to producer for successful U.K. rapper J-Hus and has cooked up the sound of a new generation, a wildly popular mix of afrobeats, U.K. grime, dubstep, hip-hop, dancehall and house music. The golden child of this new sound, JAE5 is a product of the music scenes in East-London, United Kingdom and in Accra, Ghana, where he spent years of his adolescence, soaking in the African sounds and mixing them with the electronic music he grew up with in the U.K., merging hiplife with hip-hop, dubset and grime. His unique modern sound is the synthesis of hip-hop’s true global moment in 2017: a vibrant fusion of international musical influences, raw, progressive and thrilling. At his Q&A at ADE Beats, JAE5 will discuss his work and how he developed his extremely influential sound in-depth, and he will talk about the vibrant scenes in London and Accra, the recent success of afrobeats and the latest trends and developments that excite him.

YouTube in Conversation: Cultivating Fans' Loyalty
Youtube is hosting their lounge throughout ADE just over the road from the DeLaMar – but they'll be crossing the street for this special panel. Vivien Lewit, Global Head of Artist Services for YouTube & Google Play Music will be joined by Alan Walker and his manager, Gunnar Greve to discuss cultivating loyalty among fans, tips on breaking through in today’s music and digital landscape, and the latest tools for artists on the YouTube platform.

Network and Business Lounges
In addition to the talks and programmes, don't forget that you can learn as much about the industry – and make vital connections to boot – in the lounges of DeLaMar and the Stadsschouwburg. We're sure you'll be booking up meetings already with contacts from across the world – but don't forget that those chance meetings and random conversations can be absolutely vital too. Every year we hear tales of projects and friendships that have been launched off the back of random meetings, and we hope we've created an atmosphere in the Network and Business Lounges that's conducive to more than ever of these!
