ADE Festival

The Rough Guide to ADE Festival

ADE's festival program covers the whole spectrum of electronic subgenres, with over 2,500 artists performing in 140 of Amsterdam's finest music and nightlife spaces. In 2018 the festival welcomed 400,000 festival visitors from over 100 countries in 140 venues, which makes it the world's biggest festival for electronic music.

Festival By Night

The festival showcases a broad range of electronic music artists, from pioneers to upcoming talent. It is unique in its kind, with almost 140 participating venues including clubs, smaller and cosy venues, concert halls and stadiums, but also more 'one-off' locations such as museums or even Amsterdam Central Station. In 2018 the festival featured more than 2500 performing artists.

The ADE Festival is a one of a kind experience, if you play your cards right. Here are some tips & tricks to guide you through the festival:

Do your research:
Please take some time to look into our program beforehand and read some event descriptions.

Create an ADE route for yourself per day/night:

To get most out of your pass we recommend you to make an ADE route for yourself. With over around 500 events in total there are around 100 events per day to choose from! Amsterdam is a relatively small city, so it is doable to get around relatively quick and visit multiple events on a day/night. There will always be multiple events hosted in the same part of the city, sometimes even on walking distance!

Discover new things:

With over 2500+ artists, 600+ speakers and 550+ events it will be hard to visit everything, but we think it is a nice experience to make new friends and discover new music, art, scenes that you didn’t know of before.

Peak hour:

Please be aware that between 11:30pm and 1am it is peak hour at most venues. There are events that start during the day and evening and there are events that go until 8am. You will have a lot of time to see and enjoy multiple events on each ADE day/night, but please try to avoid peak times, especially with groups.

The ADE Pass is not a Festival pass:
If you think it is the cheapest way to visit a few events and stay there all night with your friends to party, think twice. You are probably better off to buy single tickets for the events to make sure you have guaranteed access to your favorite events.

Door policy:

Please think twice if you think there is unlimited space and access at high traffic and sold out events. The agreement with the event organisers is to keep a dynamic capacity free for the ADE delegates, once that capacity is reached it is a one person = one person rule. This could take a while in some situations, so please take this into consideration.

Live Music
Opening Concert
ADE LIVE
From the Opening Concert, to ADE LIVE and Festival By Day; Live music has become integral to ADE.

Opening Concert

For the fourth year in a row, Metropole Orkest is officially opening Amsterdam Dance Event with a unique collaboration. The opening night by Metropole Orkest has developed into a permanent fixture for ADE. After previous successful collaborations with Henrik Schwarz (2016), Jameszoo (2017) and Colin Benders (2018), the orchestra has once again taken up the challenge of exploring a different genre of electronic music in an opening-night collaboration with SOHN.

ADE LIVE

ADE’s showcase program ADE LIVE, now in its fourth year, will once again be centered around Melkweg and Paradiso, the two legendary Amsterdam venues that have always been at the heart of the program. ADE LIVE's primary goal is to present adventurous music lovers with the opportunity to discover hidden gems, while also offering carefully chosen upcoming artists their moment in the spotlight in front of both the public and a range of professionals, including journalists and broadcast media, bookers, management reps, agents, event organisers and programmers.

ADE By Day

Aside from the Opening Concert and ADE LIVE, fans of live music can look forward to the Festival program as well. Previous editions' live music highlights include Klassifest at Hotel Arena, Hardwell's one-off collaboration with the Metropole Orkest at Ziggo Dome, the Jameszoo Quartet at Concertgebouw, multiple showcases at the Pllek Live Stage and much more.
