If You Could See Me Now

If You Could See Me Now

Art can be every bit as immersive as moving your body to the vibration of a beat on the dance floor. To prove this point, House for Contemporary Culture Het HEM, located in an impressive industrial building on the edge of Amsterdam, is presenting Arno Schuitemaker’s performance If You Could See Me Now.

Three performers reshape a chilled-out club dance into a mesmerizing wave-like motionuntil everything morphs into one big chunk of energy. At maximal and sweaty exertion, their incessant movement flow reinvents itself through luminous, ever-changingimpressions. Seemingly casual yet with great precision, If You Could See Me Now urgesanother, closer look.

Arno Schuitemaker created the performance against the backdrop of a rapidly changingreality to interrogate how to deal with things when they no longer are the way they were. How do we shift and realign our focus? How to keep going and move forward? Fromecstasy to turmoil, from a meticulous build-up to its fracturing, If You Could See Me Nowgoes right to the core of a transformative perspective.
