There's a new format for Sound Lab this year: The Flightcase Of... - where we can get a glimpse inside the boxes containing key artists' touring setups. This'll be a chance to hear not just about the individual hardware they use, but how it comes together on stage, the fine line between improvisation and preparation, how to deal with mistakes or equipment glitches, the nature of live performance itself, and much more besides.
The inaugural edition of The Flightcase Of... is a special one, as Richie Hawtin, Modeselektor and SOPHIE will go in-depth on their set-up, while taking questions from the ADE-audience.
Richie Hawtin recently launched his new audiovisual album CLOSE COMBINED. CLOSER, a free interactive mobile app, will be released in Bovember. The app offers fans the opportunity to experience Hawtin's live recordings from different camera angles, and also to interact with different audio elements, Hawtin recently explained to Forbes. "On one level CLOSER is to show what I do, to be entertaining, but also especially with the app to give people further insight, playful insight, into how I play and why, and also to be able to listen in to some of the separate audio streams, to see the components."
After two decades on the international music scene, Modeselektor have achieved an incredible technical routine but have never lost the curiosity to still go further and discover new ways of shaping the dance foors with their sound.
Sophie Xeon, known mononymously as Sophie (stylised as SOPHIE), is a Scottish record producer, singer, songwriter, and disc jockey known for her synthesised and "hyperkinetic" take on pop music, and came to prominence with singles such as "Bipp" and "Lemonade".
Later that day ADE Pass holders can make their way to Scheepsbouwloods to visit the DGTL special Richie Hawtin CLOSE & Modeselektor (live) (limited capacity, make sure to come down early). Pleas note: this showcase is not accessible for ADE Sound Lab ticket holders.
The show, RICHIE HAWTIN CLOSE - Spontaneity & Synchronicity, explores the relationship between human creativity and innovative technologies that enable the freedom of improvisation.
