Simon Caldin

Simon Caldin

As a young child Simon Caldin was fascinated by records and record players. As most of the youngsters growing up in the 70's and 80s he was frustrated with the music force fed by national TV and radio.
Between the ages of 9-13 he began to develop a taste for soul/motown/northern soul. Most around that time were listening to commercialised watered down ska bands like Madness, Bad Manners etc, he diverted off to Harum Records in Crouch End, London and discovered he likes of Stevie Wonder, Luthern Vandross , Change etc.
He then realised he had an addiction problem with music and was compelled to share or inflict what his passion on anyone who would listen. It was like I was converting people from the lies of commercial music and saw it as a form of communism.
Simon then discovered Mole Records, Uptown and Black Market and that for him was pure heaven.

He spent at least one whole day a week religiously record shopping, something which he misses greatly due to the demise of vinyl.
He would play parties for friends, birthdays, ,social clubs and exclusive tennis clubs. Later on in life he played with Deadley in the Bafta.

Simon has been the presenter of the miniMarket Radio show and also since the beginning of 2015 Simon has had a weekly radio show on Grant Nelsons D3EP Radio Network which has built a regular following and has included guest mixes from the likes of Todd Terry, DJ Meme, Rallf Gum and Michele Chiavarini to name a few.
