Renato Figoli

Renato Figoli

Renato grew up listening to all different musical genres, from jazz to punk, from hip-hop to house, and eventually felt the need for tangible interaction with his music, so he bought two decks and some vinyl, starting to mix. After a few years, mixing was no longer enough, so he decided to create his own music. After sending out some demos in 2003, a momentous response arrived from Neville Attree, owner (together with Christian Rindermann aka C-Rock) of the Frankfurt label Lo-Fi Stereo. This was when Renato's production career took a serious turn.

Through the following years, Renato released EPs on Lo-Fi, Trapez, Gumption Recordings and Claque Music, alongside remixes for Leftroom, Traum and Ware. Parallel to this, his recognition as DJ escalated thanks to a defining gig at Berlin's infamous Panorama Bar in 2005, followed by appearances at Cocoon, Goa, Harry Klein and numerous other reputable venues as well as the Green & Blue Festival. By 2008, slightly exhausted by the overabundance of minimal sounds (that he himself helped develop), Renato decided to take a break from the club scene, to work full time in his family business, leaving little free time to play with his synths and sequencers. But his love for music kept burning inside.

Now in 2013, after reigniting his passion for creating new sounds, he is back with a new full-length album, Funkoholic. Crafter over the past year in the studio, often collaborating with his friend and talented jazz guitarist Carlo Ditta, the album marks a new alliance with Alessio Mereu's AMAM label.
