Martyn hails from Eindhoven in the Netherlands but has been living in Washington DC for the past six years. Releasing music since 2005, his productions have gone through many transformations, adapting and shaping current sounds, always crossing genres but with firm foundations in Detroit techno and house music. His debut album Great Lengths (2009) was widely regarded as one of the seminal "dubstep" albums of that era. The following year Martyn curated and mix fabric's 50th installment in their essential mix CD series, before returning to the studio to deliver Ghost People via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. In June 2014 the Panoramabar resident joined the Ninja Tune family to release his third longplayer – The Air Between Words – a record that effortlessly incorporates vintage references but is steadfastly forward-facing at the same time. His sound is heritage and future – and that character has elevated him alongside fellow electronic heavyweights such as Four Tet, Kode9, dBridge and Mark Pritchard.
A firm believer in pushing forward and being socially engaged by releasing young talent, Martyn runs his own label 3024 with graphic artist Erosie, working with new electronic musicians (such as Leon Vynehall, Illum Sphere, Julio Bashmore and Jacques Greene) and mentoring students at Red Bull Music Academy and the Piemonte Groove Project in Italy.
Martyn’s creativity extends beyond music. In 2009 he collaborated with (and starred in) a short movie with Dutch director Ramon Gieling featuring music from Great Lengths, and worked with NYC fashion designers Rag & Bone – creating the soundtrack to their New York Fashion Week show in Spring of 2014.
