Fant de Kanter studied Printmaking in Utrecht, but after spending a year in Iceland, he decided to become a composer. He studied composition with Daan Manneke and Theo Verbey at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and graduated in 2000. Fant currently writes solo pieces, ensemble pieces, songs, theatre and film music, dance music, pop songs and lyrics.
'The music I'm currently writing is the result of a wide range of musical influences becoming more and more intertwined. In broad terms, these are the classical structures we are familiar with, on the one hand, and the beat and intensity of pop music, on the other. This means that the boundaries between genres are gradually dissolving in my music and it is born from the idea that music is a whole. I call this composing by intuition.’
