Atari + Microsoft: Old school meets new school @ ADE

ADE means music all over the place, but thanks to ADE Playground some occasional relaxtion is also part of the program. At ADE’s Festival Lounge, located at Stanislavski (Leidseplein), Atari and Internet Explorer installed two retro-consoles with a modern touch, literally – the screens are touch sensible. Pong is, among others, the game that can be played here, on Microsoft’s new browser Internet Explorer 10 that is. Get a high score and win one of the two Windows 8 tablets.

This year marks the fortieth anniversary of Atari's legendary arcade game Pong. Through the years, games and computer games evolved to a level where the possibilities for the users are almost endless. Yet Pong, in all its simplicity, still has its charm.

Besides the anniversary of Pong, within two weeks the new Microsoft operating system Windows 8 is launched featuring Internet Explorer 10 as matching browser. This browser is, according to the manufacturer, faster and more modern than ever, including some state-of-the-art advanced techniques.

These two companies, both with years of knowledge in the field of digital technology, go back in time with these old-fashioned arcade machines. This is where old school and new school meet. So go and check it out, cause even if you where not here during the heyday of arcade games like Pong and Asteroids, this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with these consoles. (Re)discover the fun of yesteryear with the technology of today.
